Karter’s Kards
A local restaurant gift card is issued to families who are checking out of Dell Children’s Blood and Cancer Center. Upon checking out, the parent’s mind is bombarded by what just took place, trying to process it all piece by piece. The routine clinic and hospital stays become a financial burden. Families can’t afford to eat out after every visit, so they often have to make their child wait until home. Back up food brought from home is typically gone by the time of checkout since things don’t usually go as planned. This is why the gift card program was created. It’s our way to help lessen the stress of purchasing another meal out after treatment.
How it works: A Social Worker from the outpatient Blood and Cancer Center will issue a gift card to patients as they check out of a long clinic stay. These gift cards are for local restaurants such as: Mod Pizza, Torchy’s Tacos, Which Which, Chipotle, etc.
Karter’s Karts
Wagons provided to families upon being diagnosed with childhood cancer at Dell Children’s, Austin, TX. Families fighting cancer often spend most their time going between home, clinic, and hospital stays. There are a lot of medical supplies and children’s personal comfort items to tote back and forth. We help keep your things together by providing a collapsible wagon to help you through your fight and beyond. These wagons are also great for wheeling your child around the hospital halls while in-patient.
